Plagiarism workshop 1

Introduction to plagiarism and plagiarism identification work

Instructor: Lawrie Hunter, CPC editor

June 4, 2021 – Friday

12:25 – 13:10

45 minute intensive with optional homework

Venue: Zoom environment, coordinates TBA

Main target: GRIPS masters students. PhD students welcome too.

This workshop begins with an overview of academic plagiarism as it applies to GRIPS students: definitions; hazards and penalties; strategies for avoidance (correct use of sources, writing best practices, argument clarification; use of detection software).

The hands-on part of the workshop will give participants practice in distinguishing between proper and improper use of sources in academic writing.

Hopefully the hands-on will motivate the participants to try the stunningly revealing optional task in their own time.
